PETER SHANKMAN

Yeah, so I kind of did O’Reilly again last night. This one, I think, was my best yet. Your thoughts? Subject: OJ and all that is his weirdness, and FOX pulling his show/book.

The problem with the arts nowadays, is that for most events, you need a sizable budget to enjoy them. As a product of NYC, I was privy to many, many free and low-cost events – concerts in the park, random performances at some even more random Church in Harlem… Wonderful things for a young boy to be exposed. Too many people know NY arts as The Met, Lincoln Center, The Symphony, and (shudder) Radio City Music Hall. C. Nana-Oye Addo-Yobo, former events director for the Apollo Theater, has created a blog featuring all the cool/low-cost arts events in the city. Located at http://freedomlovefest.typepad.com, it’s quickly become one of my must visits. Spread the message far and wide, children. The arts [...]

From Popbitch, the UK celebrity gossip newsletter that comes out every Thursday (and for some reason, didn’t come out until Friday this week) p>Israeli Jewish, Israeli Arab and Palestinian teens are competing on a joint team at this weekend’s World Shotokan Karate championships in Tokyo. Why exactly can CHILDREN see past nationality or color or language or petty battles, yet adults can’t? It’s always been that way, right?

I couldn’t sleep, so was going through my junk folder for false positives – 34.87 megabytes of SPAM since one week ago Friday. Just thinking about that multiplied by everyone on the Internet scares the hell out of me when I think about bandwidth. So I don’t. What I do think about though, is this – and tell me if I’m odd… SPAM that’s spelled incorrectly or has grammatical errors bothers me more than SPAM that doesn’t. For instance: "She wants a better sex? All you need’s here." It hurt me to type that ."a better sex" is incorrect. All you need IS here. You can’t conjoin the words "needs" and "is"  with an apostrophe. Another one that drives me [...]

Doug Weaver at the Upstream Group writes "The Drift" – and his take on Fox’s disgusting, pathetic attempt to win at Sweeps is dead-spot on. So I’ll let him say it. Thanks, Doug. The Final Collapse I used to think that the devolution of the relationship between a television network and its advertisers would be rather slow and drawn out; not unlike a once-passionate marriage that gradually loses its heat. But I’m not so sure anymore.  It just might end in a conflagration of betrayal, anger and recrimination, with one spouse screaming obscenities from the yard as the other throws clothing and personal items from the second floor window. The antagonist in this psychodrama is Fox.  In case you missed [...]
