I wanted to wait until after the conference ended to see how these went over. And I’m thrilled to report that they were the hit of the show. I got the idea after Lili from Online Tonight gave me one of hers a few months ago. So I had them made, and figured this show would be a good chance to introduce them. The next generation of business cards. Introducing, my Business Chip. The reaction was better than I ever could have imagined. People had never seen anything like them before. They’re actual "clay" chips, just like they use in Vegas, but with my information on both sides. People were grabbing them like candy, holding onto them, taking pictures of [...]

Back in 1992, I was at Boston University, shopping downtown somewhere. (I had no style back then.) I have style now. Shut up. Anyhow, I remember that one of the first shirts I ever bought because of the message, as opposed to "I need a shirt," was a Fido Dido t-shirt that read, simply, "Normal is Boring." As faithful readers of PR. Differently know, (or anyone who has spent more than 90 seconds with me knows,) "Normal is Boring" is one of my mottos. So it was with glee and happiness that I found out (via Michael Allison) that Fido Dido is coming back!! BBDO Toronto is bringing back Fido Dido for a 7-Up campaign this summer. This excites me. Did anyone happen to notice that Taco Bell sent two delivery boys to Paris’ Grandparents house to give Paris her first meal upon her release from jail? I saw this repeated on CNN, the BBC, and the local Singapore news several times over the course of the evening, because I was up from 3am on. I don’t know why. I couldn’t sleep. But regardless, Taco Bell, yet again, comes to the forefront of Timely Stunts. I’ve mentioned this numerous times – does your PR stunt have a time-frame call to action? Is it relevant? 120 Google News hits on Taco Bell + in the past eight hours. Is your campaign timely? In other news, the conference producer came to me [...]

They say be careful what you wish for… When I opened the conference today, I jokingly promised that I’d let the audience know as soon as Paris was released. Sure enough, the Google Alert came in AS I WAS PRESENTING. "And one of the things we really need to know about the niche marketing environment is exactly how <beep… beep…> um… Exactly how… <read…> Oh, you’ve GOT to be kidding. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the dubious distinction to be the first to inform you that Paris was in fact, just released from jail. Now then, about the niche marketing environment…." Can’t make this stuff up. Welcome home, Paris. Try and stay out of the public eye for a while.

Should have mentioned this – Doing Wisconsin Public Radio to talk about Marketing in about 6 and a half hours – 7am EST. Tune in if you’re in Wisconsin, I suppose… http://www.wpr.org/
