Have a great Labor Day, stay safe and happy. Here are some hamburger grilling tips from Adam Kuban at A Hamburger Today. I’ll be falling out of planes on Saturday, and doing a long run on Sunday. Monday will probably find me at mom and dad’s house, since they’ve got the killer BBQ. I’ll probably drag her with me so someone else can take the leftovers back to their place for a change, and I’m not tempted to gorge on cold hamburgers and macaroni salad at 3:30 in the morning. Have fun, be safe, love life. -Peter

Long story cut short: Nixon Peabody wins a "best place to work" award. They decide to write a song about it. Song is horrible. Song gets put on You-tube. Nixon Peabody, instead of laughing it off and actually getting some good attention to themselves (hey, NP has a sense of humor! I’d hire them!) they start acting like lawyers. Cease and desists abound. Now Nixon Peabody looks stupid. All because they acted like lawyers, instead of acting like marketers. They could have not only saved themselves a ton of stupidity, but also looked quite cool. But they didn’t. Probably because in a law firm, a marketing department is a necessity, but one similar to flood insurance. In a law firm, [...]

Having a discussion a few days ago with a running buddy who is in HR. She was telling me how, when she interviews potential candidates, she asks for one or two online personas – She tells them that before she Googles them, she’ll go to those specific personas and attempt to form an opinion that will be used to counter anything she finds on Google. Keep in mind, this woman is head of HR for a major Fortune 500. She doesn’t do it as much now, I’m assuming, since the kind of people she’s interviewing are major candidates, but she instructs her staff to do it, too. So what personas would you give? For me, I’d probably give this blog, [...]

Didn’t see this one coming… Apparently, Valleywag woke up this morning with a nasty hangover, and I walked in to their bedroom like the happy-go-lucky roommate who just ran a 10k. Valleywag put me in their crosshairs this afternoon, making me the subject of their occasional "I hate it here" rants. Why? Because I get up early. Ah well… I’ll take it. It’s a fun piece. And like I said – I used to be like him – I used to sleep in… I will go on record to correct two points, though. 1) Just because I’m getting up early, doesn’t mean I’m going to bed early. In fact, when I’m not training for the NYC Marathon, I’m out late [...]
