When you say certain things, people know exactly what you’re talking about.
Examples:
- “Our Prices are INNNSAAAANE!” = Crazy Eddie
- “You Deserve a Break Today” = McDonald’s
- “Just Do it.” = Nilke
- And, of course, “They’re… Grrrrreat!!” = Frosted Flakes.
No one, however, ever stops to think of the people behind the brands. And on Sunday, at age 91, Thurl Ravenscroft, of Fullerton, CA, passed away of Prostate Cancer.
Mr. Ravenscroft was Tony the Tiger.
But that’s not all – Mr. Ravenscroft was also the voice in the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Enchanted Tiki Room, all in Disneyland, and also lent his voice to Cinderella, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, and dozens of other famous animated features.
So lift a bowl of cereal to a man who we didn’t know, but whose voice was like that of an old friend.
