A Pizza is still a Pizza, except in Iran

According to the AP, Pizza in Iran will now be referred to as "Elastic Loaves."

This is due to Iran attempting to block Western Influence.

"Ray’s Elastic Loaves, can I help you," doesn’t have the same ring to it.

What if "Pizza" was a trademarked name of a speciifc company, and it was banned? How (if at all) could you as the company VP/M help?

Heya! You Sitta Downa, I make-a You-a Nice-a Elastic Loafa, yes?

This sounds like the Iranian equivalent of “Freedom Fries”…Elastic Loaves is definitely unique though! I wonder how many options they went through before deciding on that one.

I think the renamed Danishes (the pastries) during the whole cartoon flap. Flower of Islam, Rose of Islam, something like that.

Hey i was in Iran in in 2004 for work, we were there almost a month. One of the restaurants in Tehran we ate at was called Pizza Pizza.
i guess it will be now elastic loaf/elastic loaf.

By the way i was horrified to see the people i was with putting ketchup on their pizza slices.

The new Iranian name for Danish pastries is “rose of Muhammad”–which makes even less sense than the old name IMO. Those flat, vaguely round pastries don’t look much like roses and are no more Arabian than Scandinavian.
