So long as that person wasn't totally clueless and you don't see a bunch of new fees on you next statement, that was impressive.

Now I'd like to see you try that with PayPal...

Peter, one side comment. You may have violated various federal laws by recording the conversation without letting the other party know that you were doing so.

TD had a recorded message that your call might be monitored or recorded. You should have done the same...

I love my Bank. I use Royal Bank on Glen Erin in Mississauga. Ontario. We have a USD Account & a CAD Account and a Business account, RESP, 2 RRSP, 2 Mortgages (House and Cottage), 2 credit cards (personal and business), a kids account, a line of credit and an investment account.

We actually started out with TD opening an account there as soon as we moved to Canada from the U.S. Want to know why I'm with RBC and not TD now? They would not give us a mortgage EVEN THOUGH we had a pristine credit record in the U.S. and a 6 figure income, no outstanding debt and 20% to put down. They said we needed to build a credit record here in Canada.

Funny, RBC had no problem. I've always found RBC be outstanding. Maybe I would have liked TD too... if they had bothered to get to know me.

I've had an account with TD since I was a kid. The customer service experience at TD was nothing special until their merger with Canada Trust – then, presto, everything changed. Now regardless of whether I phone, email or visit a branch in person, the customer service is consistently responsive, friendly, attentive, helpful and they actually offer me solid advice on saving money without trying to upsell me. I wouldn't consider moving my banking anywhere else.

You know that TD stands for "Toronto Dominion," right, Peter?

Leave it to us polite Canadians. :)
