Beware Best Buy?

Have you joined my incredibly non-annoying, once-in-a-while email newsletter?

Boing-Boing (hi, Xeni) is reporting that Best Buy has been maintaining a fake version of their website for use internally, in their stores. You go online, find a price on a whatever, go to the store, and they pull up the fake website and show you that the price has gone up.

Object lesson: You’re Best Buy: You’ve just been called by the Journal. What do you tell them?

Even worse, is the Best Buy idiot who dreamed this scheme up so incredibly stupid that he or she simply assumes they’d never be found out? Wow.

I’ve always thought of Best Buy, Circuit City, and the like, as the rip-off versions of what electronics stores are supposed to be, anyway. You buy there if you’re uninformed and need hand-holding. You buy anywhere else if you don’t.
