A little history… I’m on Twitter as @skydiver.The morning of December 24th, I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. I figured I could clean out my office, and by doing so, give away via Twitter all the “SWAG” that I’d collected over the year from loyal HARO members, advertisers, and the like. Seemed like a good idea.
So the night before, I posted this to Twitter. Within 30 minutes, I had over 400 new followers. Apparently, everyone retweeted, and people who’d never heard of me or HARO started following me in droves. “Cool!” I thought.
The next morning, I started giving away some stuff. Some soaps from SkinFree, a surge protector from TrippLite, even some travel goodies. The minimal cost of postage was, in my opinion, worth getting my office back and making a few people happy.
But then, something weird started to happen. All of a sudden I got a call from my friend Kelly, the PR rep for the very awesome Ogio line of travel gear. “Peter, want to give away a bag?” “Um, YEAH!” So I did. And all of a sudden, people realized that hey, I just gave away a $150+ bag to some random person who followed me on Twitter! Well, that got the word out.
By 3pm, it was clear that I’d have to do this again - not because I couldn’t get through all the stuff in my office, but because offers of “Hey, I’ll donate _____ as a prize for your next question!” were coming in around one every five minutes.
So in no particular order here’s what’s going to be given away tomorrow. This is a partial list, because prizes are STILL coming in. I’m going to have to ask a question every 10 minutes or something. What hath I wrought? I should also add, note the ski trips. SKI TRIPS!!!

For those of us new to twitter can someone who is a pro explain exactly what to do when Peter announces a prize. Do you hit the reply on skydiver. I just signed on to twitter and am trying to learn the protocol. Would appreciate help here as I’d like to try and win something. Gotta be in it to win it!
December 26th, 2008 at 7:35 am
fabulous! heading over to follow you now
December 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
I would also like to know where we send the answers. Anyone know?
December 26th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Had to laugh when someone tweeted me about your giveaways because I’ve been running a trivia quiz every day for a week or two but, of course, having less than 2000 followers, haven’t been offered quite the volume of prizes you are able to offer.
It did amuse me though, that the person who tweeted it did so as a good idea that one could copy so he clearly hadn’t been following my tweets with any real interest! LOL
Glad it’s working for you and giving your followers a lot of fun - although the prizes for mine are a little more humble so far, I’m certainly having fun doing it and some of my little following seems to be enjoying it too! Mind you, I don’t do it all day long, just at 22:00 GMT every day and only 5 questions.
I think I had better follow you and try to win some things I can give away as prizes!
All the best

Hi Peter! You ROCKED it today in Houston! It was GREAT, inspired a lot of wonderful ideas and … made a difference. Thank you. Glad to see that NASA was so wonderful too!
This post mentions that there are still two Ogio bags left. Is that true? Are there really still two bags left? Because … I would love one.

Hi Peter,
Real stupid question: How do you draw those lines through your words? I’ve often wanted to do that on my screen and didn’t even believe it was possible.
Thanks for the fun and interesting read(s).

Peter, this contest is almost enough motivation to figure out twitter–especially the ski trip which seems to still be available!
(and Lynn, it’s easy to put lines through text in posts or in comments using WordPress!)
