Buy Peter a Sandwich: Heather DiRubba, WNET 13 New York
Welcome to the first edition of “Buy Peter a Sandwich” - Basically, when I’m in your city, meet me for lunch, we have a sandwich, then I ask you five questions, tape them on my FlipTV Camera, and post the results. They’re seen by over 10k people, and everyone has fun. (And I get a good sandwich.) And for what it’s worth, I usually pay for both sandwiches.
I’m in NYC for the next week or two. Wanna buy me a sandwich and get interviewed? peter (at) shankman (dot) com.
Our first guest: Heather DiRubba, a publicist with WNET Channel 13, as well as the head of the new professionals group of the PRSA NY.

Cool new feature! I was going to email you and say I’ll be in NY Monday if you want to grab a club soda but now I am afraid you’ll put me on camera. Can I just come by and pick up my Witch Hazel? BTW, how ADD are you?
Good concept. Use a tripod - the Blair Witch effect is passe.
Thanks
Heather was a great first guest! I work with Heather on PRSA-NY’s New Pros Committee and she constinues to provide great programming. Kudos to Heather!
Peter and Heather,
Such a great interview. As someone who is a small business owner here in Los Angeles, you’ve provided some wonderful information in a short video! I’ll be travelling to New York this Friday and will check out Joshua Tree, but in the meantime I’ll remember to keep my media pitches on topic. I think my entire business is facinating, but not to a reporter who’s on deadline! I want to be someone who can help a reporter *fast* not bore them to tears! Keep the interviews comin’!

Hey Peter, you are awesome! Joined HARO about two weeks ago and already have a story in the works. Created a Twitter account while watching one of your seminars on your website promoting it; and Flip video rocks. I got mine about 6 weeks ago after reading about it in the NY Times. Awesome. Keep up the great work buddy, you’re an inspiration.
Clever, clever. Love the unusual way you look at media, Peter. And by the way- definitely put yourself in every video clip. We can watch each new clip and wonder when and how you’ll show up!
Great idea, Peter! Heather’s a fine first guinea, er, guest and she does great, too, but the camera doth not mask her tired PR eyes…
What a sweet, beautiful, smart girl. We should all buy her lunch.
Great idea and great interview. If you will come to beautiful Colorado Springs (in the shadow of Pikes Peak), I will definitely buy you a sandwich!
Peter, when you’re next in SF, allow time for us to eat sandwiches and talk about rock & roll. SF is still such a GREAT rock & roll town.
yr pal,
Paul
Good tidbits for a newbie. A little monopod from B&H would make it steadier, yet still provide some flexibility in positioning.
Thanks Heather and Peter,

The next time you are in SF or the east bay (Oakland/Berkeley) I’ll definitely buy you a sandwich…great work on the 1st interview.

Heather rocks –> and you do too, Peter for bringing us new insights. Thanks!
Great idea Peter. Can’t wait to see who makes the cut in each city.
BTW, it’s somewhat humorous to see all the “relevant” videos that YouTube suggests in the lower frame after the clip ends - I don’t know if Schizophrenia: Heather or Heather Sutton’s Model Portfolio are really all that relevant to an insightful PR person from WNET. And I’ll put Heather Martin’s “When are you Coming Home” up against Sonic Youth’s “Bull in the Heather” any day…
Heather is a joy. I wish I could be her publicist. Thank you Peter!
Oh, ho! What a fun interview and what a great idea! You’ve inspired me to get out there and do some more with my Flip.
And next time you’re in L.A., do I have a sandwich for you!
Peter,
Good luck ever finding a guest as great as that woman again. She was attractive, charming, smart, and actually helpful!

I love this idea! I may have to steal it!

Gosh, Peter! I’m impressed with your creativity! And a great way to kick off your sandwich-eating meetings/interviews — with Heather. Nice going Heather! Peter, I’m in midtown and am free to meet. (Who buys? Who cares?) I’ll share some fitness/nutrition secrets.
Forgot to mention, Peter (it’s way too late / too early in the a.m.), you cAN interview me on my forthcoming book, STOP AGING — START TRAINING.
great interview. but dude. drink less coffee, you’re giving me motion sickness.
Transcript, pretty please?
Cool, Heather. And I get to say I remember you when . . . .And Peter, you are tops.
Great idea, Peter! If you are ever in Buffalo/Niagara Falls area, I’d love to have lunch with you. keep up the good work!
Tom
Peter you are a blast! I’d love to buy you a sandwich! You have your choice of locations too…Connecticut or New York. As I am in both weekly.
Awesome interview concept! Very informative!
Question: Would you be interested in interviewing a communications student desperately trying to get into PR or just meeting up for a sandwich when you are in Seattle?
Having started my career in PR, I can relate to everything she says…and to everything Peter’s so good at doing. I’m also from New York, so relate to that too! Would love to have a sandwich with you anytime (my treat, of course :-). Just watched your podcast from River Communications Group and loved it - great tips. Cheers! Val
Shoot the food! Start using a trademarked HARO question, like “Have you ever fired a gun?” or “How long have you been shoplifting?”
AND! I love dogs more than anything, but rescues and shelters are filled with puppy mill “leftovers,” not runaways from good homes or breeders. I’ve always rescued dogs, and I have four now, but I learned recently that good breeders are concerned with healthy dogs, not freaky or trendy ones. They have a limited number of litters (the dogs do, I can’t speak for the owners) and are bred for their most healthy characteristics. Most abandoned pets come from irresponsible people and overbreeding. If you buy from a GOOD breeder and then spay/neuter, that’s at least one fewer dog waiting for you to save it from a cold metal cage. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t adopt, but let’s not sneer at people who love purebred dogs.
