PETER SHANKMAN

The following story is entirely true. More importantly, I swear on my entire professional reputation and all I hold dear to me that the story below was in no way staged, planned in advance, or in any way faked. This is real. And most importantly: This is AMAZING. When my alarm clock went off at 3:30 this morning, I knew I was in for a long day. I was catching a 7am flight out of Newark to Tampa, Florida, for a lunch meeting in Clearwater, then heading back to Newark on a 5pm flight, getting me in around 8:10pm, and with any luck, to my apartment by 9 or so. We all have days like that, they happen from time [...]

Have you seen something like this floating through your social media data stream recently? “Who wants to sponsor me to go to Overrated Conference 2011?” “I need a sponsor for my blog. Anyone?” “Who wants to send me to ABC for the WXY meetup?” Just look around. They’re everywhere. Seems that everyone with any social media presence, no matter now small, has glommed onto the “Sponsor me!” bandwagon. Unfortunately, 99.9% of those requests won’t ever get looked at, let alone acted on. Why? It’s simple, really. You want to be sponsored? You better damn well be sponsorable. What does that mean? What do you mean “I’d better be sponsorable? That’s not even a real word, Peter!” It’s a real word, [...]

The entire world stops today, almost all news streamlines into one story (with the exception of a terrible plane crash/act of domestic terrorism in Texas.) Everything has shut down now, as the world waits… Waits… Waits for the Tiger… not to Roar, but to meekly crawl out of his den, wring his hands, shuffle around, apologize, and ask for forgiveness. At least, that’s the script he’ll stick to. In real life? Tiger is sleeping like a baby tonight, the night before he hits the public and the media for the first time since his encounter with a tree, a five-iron to the head, and a dozen or so women. Why? Because it comes down to this: We need Tiger a [...]

I think this may be the largest audience I’ve ever spoken to! Wow!

46 hours later, I’m still a slight bit nauseous. That’s not to say that my trip on G-Force One wasn’t entirely worth it. Because it was. Even just to see the joy in my dad’s eyes as he got to fly around the plane like a 67-year-old Superman made all my nausea and sweating completely worth it. And hey, out of 29 people, 11 of them puked, and I wasn’t in that group. So you know, you find good things wherever they come from. Background: I’d heard about the Zero-G flights for years. Run by Space Adventures, the same company that takes normal every day people to the International Space Station, these guys put you in a modified 727, and [...]
