How to Make Facebook a Bit Safer When Browsing Wirelessly

You know my rants on why public WiFi needs to die. But if you still insist on connecting at the local Starbucks, at least there’s a way to make your Facebook browsing a bit safer. Watch and share the video.

They also have a “see who’s been logging in” function, similar to Google, and “alert me to a new PC connection”. Just click the box under the https one. These don’t work well for FireSheep, as those logins typically happen at the same cafe as you’re in, but if you think you’ve been hacked, it can provide some verification.

Rants about security and safety are always welcomed and need to continue. Most folks are unaware of the Internet dangers.

I enabled this feature when they first announced it. I logged into FB a little while after reading this post and happened to glance up at the address bar; imagine my surprise at seeing my browser wasn’t using https. It appears that if you go to apps.facebook.com and you acknowledge the warning that you can’t use https for that connection (see http://bit.ly/dIAz7Y ) it unchecks this setting in account security. :(

It’s incredible how many settings there are on Facebook.

Thanks for posting this; I probably wouldn’t have come across it (any time soon).
