PETER SHANKMAN

I am Elphaba.

Today, I defied gravity.

I ran the 2006 ING NYC Marathon in 3:58:03.

I beat my goal.

Thank you to everyone who said wonderful things. :)

More later, after I’ve recovered.

For now, though…

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky
As someone told me lately
Everyone deserves the chance to fly

And if I’m flying solo
At least I’m flying free
To those who’d ground me
Take a message back from me

Tell them how I am
Defying gravity
I’m flying high
Defying gravity
And soon I’ll match them in renown

And nobody in all of Oz
No Wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! An amazing accomplishment at any time, but to reach a goal like that is particularly glorious… Bask in the glory and enjoy!

Passion, rigor, determination, and courage all describe you. To say “congratulations” sounds so cliche, but it’s the only English word that sounds fitting. I hope you did have an ice bath and a beer, at least, for you more than deserve it. Keep flying on that feeling for as long as you like.

Many many congrats, Peter. So very impressive, all the more so because it wasn’t JUST the day, but all of the days prior that were required to get there. Go get a massage as soon as you’re ready and RELAX! Best to you from the whole family.

YOU MADE IT!

And in 3:58:03! That doesn’t just defy gravity, it defies logic. Congratulations on conquering the laws of the known universe.

Hoo-rah. A tremendous amount of hard work and sacrifice culminating in 14,283 seconds of adrenaline and pain.

And 117 seconds to spare.

You’ve conquered land and air. Next up, the English Channel.

Impressive. Very impressive. Although I was out of town on Sunday and not there to witness it happen, I did take several quick strides on your behalf :)
