The “Holy Crap, I Can’t Move” Weekend
Saturday I thought it might be a fun idea to take a little bike ride. And by “take a little bike ride,” I mean “bike 66 miles from my apartment to upper Nyack, NY and back to complete my first 100k ever.” Because, I thought it might be fun. It was fun. It was also, by the time it was over, really painful. But it’s good. A ton more of that and I actually might be ready for my first Half Ironman. Ready or not, it’s coming. Ain’t nothing I can do to change that. All I can do is be ready.
I woke up this morning, unable to feel my butt. But a hot shower and one cup of coffee later, and I was off to the Drop Zone, (Went to Skydive Long Island this time) to jump with my friend Zak, a really talented freefall photographer. A result or two below.

And yes, I’ll well aware that my canopy, an Icarus Safire 2, is big enough at 229 square feet to block out the sun. Deal with it. I’m a big guy. I like having a big canopy. I’ve got all the time in the world to downsize.
How was your weekend?

I can’t believe they named a canopy “Icarus” . It doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in me. Good thing I’m not the one using it. Looks like fun, though.
We had a blast this w/e- Sat eve had 15 people over from our Unitarian Universalist community to learn how to use our church’s social network on Ning and then to practice Sunday’s hymns. Our black cat, Neo, was so overwhelmed he lay catatonic (ouch!) in his box in the center of the living room all evening.
Hope your butt’s better.

Awesome photos, Peter. You look like your floating in the first one, and the smile almost inspires me to try skydiving myself! Note that “almost” part!
Spent the weekend packing and shlepping, packing and shlepping, but when I’m in my new place five blocks from the ocean, I know it will be worth it!

I just signed up for HARO and had no good reason for reading your blog–but next time you’re on the greenway and see a guy on a Dahon folder hauling two preschoolers in a bike trailer, say hi.

Nice. Powered para gliding is better. http://www.loststirrup.com/Fly-in_Info.html In the picture on the very bottom, I’m in the hot pink shirt and Tech Hubby is on my left in the maroon shirt. I don’t fly, but he does and loves it! We are headed there this year-woohoo!
