The Two-Year-Anniversary HARO Day!

PRIZE LIST!

2 iPads
One Flipcam (thanks to Pixability)
One day of “Shirt wearing brand publicity” Thanks to I Wear Your Shirt
One Kodak ZI8 Camera (sweet! Compliments of Bert Martinez)
A $100 Gift Certificate from Carlo’s Bakery

And tons more stuff!!

So back in early 2008, we launched a HARO day – Essentially, we asked everyone to make all of their status updates the following: “Get sourced, get quoted, get famous: http://helpareporter.com”

And people did it in droves!

It’s time to do it again!

But this time, we have prizes!

The reason HARO has been as successful as it has is due to two things: 1) It’s helpful to you. 2) Because it’s helpful, you like telling people about it. So we’re gonna ask you to do it again.

On Thursday, April 15th, 2010, we’re going to ask you to donate your status to HARO. Simply make your social media status (on whatever or how many platforms you use,) to the following:

Get sourced, get quoted, get famous: http://helpareporter.com

That’s it. For one day, that’s your status update.

Then, send an email to statusupdate@helpareporter.com with a screenshot of your update. We’ll take the 100th, 200th, etc., all the way to 10,000th email we get, and send a t-shirt or some other fun HARO swag to you.

We’ll also choose four updates at random, and two will each get brand a new iPad, one will get a brand new iPod, one will get a brand new ScotteVest, and another will get a gorgeous backpack from Ogio! And yes, we’ll have more stuff to give away, too!

We think that’s worth donating your status for a bit, huh? Let’s see if we can be as organic as we were two years ago.

Finally, we’ll take all the screenshots we got, and make a massive compilation of them so you can try and find yours.

It’s our way of saying thank you for using HARO – and helping us grow.

So that’s this Thursday. As always, thank you for using HARO – We love you! :)

Have fun – I’ll catch it if I can!

It is on my calendar. Also, I saw your facebook photo with Tamsen Fadal of WPIX/CW11 and you look great. Don’t beat yourself up about how your body looks. It is more important to take care of yourself and do the right things (i.e. eat right, exercise) than to look like some “ideal” that is really an illusion. Okay that’s my sermon for today. Thank you again for developing HARO. May only good things come to you always.

Don’t bother fiddling with your browser for a screen shot: use your operating system. On a Mac use the Grab utility (in your Applications folder you’ll find a Utilities folder: Grab lives in there). On a PC… um, not sure. But it’s a pretty basic capability, I’m sure any Windows version has a simple keyboard shortcut that shoots your entire screen (like Command-Shift-F3 in Mac OS9). Windows XP definitely does screen shots, I saw it happen once. Took a single keystroke-combo.

(does this count as “helping a reporter out”? ;-)

    Yaay, HARO!

Here’s the screenshot advice. Go to jing.com (no, I do not work for them). Fill out the registration info and a yellow ball will appear at the top of your screen. To the left, there will be a cross or an “X” on that device. Click on that and move your cursor to where you would like to start your screenshot. Drag that across where the screenshot will end.

Use the tools to send the screenshot to screencast.com (where you will also have to register, I believe). Name it and find it at screencast. Save the image to your computer (right click and name) and voila. You have an image that you can attach to an e-mail!
