With that, take a look at what everyone’s wondering – Here’s the Immersive Media Street Level View-Mobile, in all of its glory…
Behold!
The camera mounted on top is Immersive’s own, patented 11-lens camera, close-up below. Media, contact me for high-resolution, if you need them.

This is crazy. I saw one of these cars drive by me just a few minutes ago when I was getting lunch (Alexandria, VA). I got back into the office, pulled up BoingBoing and saw the same car (well, a similar one) staring at me from the page. I wonder if I’ll be in one of the pictures.

Correct me if I’m wrong… but during my photophography school days, we discussed the legality of photographs taken without someones permission. Specifically, having your property photographed without your permission.
My professor, 40+ years as a professional photographer, informed us you could not take a photo of someone’s house without their permission. Isn’t this exactly what Google is doing? Especially now when they capture images of people in the windows?
I think it’s very cool, but also question it’s legal issues, especially the privacy issue.

That’s a pretty slick camera. I love that picture of the guy in front of the Adult shop… Forever burned into the internet. I bet that will make for some interesting explanations.

FXEditor, I won’t say your photo professor is wrong, but you probably didn’t ask the right question…
There are a lot of conditions: purpose of the image (commerical, personal use, etc), primary subject v background, etc…

Immersive Media and Google are doing different things…Google is just taking picutres and posting them on the interent, where as Immersive Media is taking the time to “scuff” out the faces of people, names of buildings, license plate numbers, and anything else that could violate the privacy act. These images are on the internet to help you locate an address and get a better look at where you need to go…they are not there to point out where people are located and what they are doing.
