As much as I’m a New Yorker…

And as much as New York City is the media capital of the world, and I could never think about living any place else, I read these kind of posts, and… I dunno… I guess it just makes me wonder… Maybe I could.

From A Hamburger Today - Bobo’s Drive-in, Topeka, Kansas

I guess it’s just the "In-car service" line that gets me.

A drive-in hamburger joint. I know all of you who live in places where these exist will laugh and mock my amazement and wistfullness, but… I guess in some very small way, I envy you.

Peter - You don’t have to go to Kansas. Just drive down the NJ Turnpike. They even have Elvis in a sequined jumpsuit on weekends waving at everyone who drives by. It’s worth the trip.

Yup, we got those. Also, the occasional drive-through liquor store, which is another great concept.

When I was a teenager, we had them in the suburbs of NYC. I remember a rather large one, complete with carhops, on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre. Then the NY Metro area grew up; and drive-in eateries went bye-bye, along with (a bit later) drive-in movies.
