PETER SHANKMAN

My movie is done!

In June of 2010, I was approached by my good friend Lisa Hamil, who asked me if I’d be interested in becoming the executive producer on her latest film.

“A chance to be in IMDB and get a poster with my name on it?” I asked. “I’d be crazy not to,” and the rest is history.

I’m thrilled to announce that shooting, editing, and everything else that goes into making a movie is DONE, and Right Next Door is finally ready! We have an awesome agent who’s currently shopping the movie around, and I couldn’t be more excited with how it looks – It’s an amazing thriller starring Linda Hamilton (Terminator) and Ted McGinley, (Married… With Children) as well as some truly amazing up-and-coming stars like Hallee Hirsh, (You’ve Got Mail) Elsie Fisher (Despicable Me) and Jeremy Dozier (Dirty Girl) I’m so excited about how Right Next Door turned out, I can’t even begin to tell you. Please share! We’d love as much feedback as we can get!

Take a look below! Let me know what you think in the comments – You might wind up being invited by me to the premiere!!

Thanks for watching! I can’t wait for the premiere!

Looks interesting! Seems like a fun, fresh take on a familiar theme. I’ll be sure to check it out!

  • Joyce Elliott

OMG!! Been waiting for this to be completed FOREVER!! And from this trailer, I can tell it was well worth the wait! Scared the Bejesus out of me!! Congratulations on a great project. But, in my opinion, anything with Linda Hamilton in it is already tops above everything else!

Ted McGinley? Will there be shark jumping?

OMG…left wanting more, can’t wait.”West coast mofos” about made me pee! Job well done on what i’ve seen….I have teenages in my home and will love to see how they respond to this trailer….popcon and a movie night soon, I hope so.

“we’re gonna shoot you mo-fos .. west coast!” … love it… congrats peter

  • http://twitter.com/infodude Joe Hansen

Congratulations Peter! Quite the accomplishment. Definitely something that is on my “bucket list!”

  • Dina Santorelli

It looks awesome! Totally my kind of film! All the best!!

  • Montana

Normally, there is no f-ing way I would ever go see a movie that looks this scary. But two things make this an exception–I’d be laughing too hard to run out of the theater in horror, and also, I’ve been irresistibly drawn to Ted McGinley since I was eleven years old and used to watch “The Love Boat” in secret when my parents left me to babysit my younger sister. Babysitting flashbacks + edgy humor + Peter Shankman? I need to go to this premiere!! (And if Linda Hamilton is willing to arm wrestle me, that’s a bonus spectacle for you Peter!)

  • http://www.facebook.com/knoxster John Knox

“There might be someone in the house” — Awesome.. one of those ‘mostly in your head’ thrillers.. my favorite.

  • http://www.adrants.com Steve Hall

Aside from the fact movie trailers make every movie look good, how can you go wrong with “West Coast!” And babysitter boobs! And Ted McGinley playing something other than a buffoon! And, come on, “Right Next Door.” Perfect scary movie title. Peter, you are the master of many things. No reason this won’t be yet another masterful achievement in your cap!

  • catherine

You know I look good on a red carpet. ’nuff said.

  • http://www.facebook.com/suzanne.e.henry Suzanne Jackson Henry

Okay, first I love the humor and horror mix, which is really unique. And, secondly, I can already tell the writing is original, too. Yeah, Peter (and everyone else involved)!

i would like to see if for the boobs!

  • http://www.facebook.com/EAwrite Erika Andrade

    Congratulations Peter.
Now, as a movie lover I’d wonder about some editing on the teaser trailer

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1347192603 Joe Maida

Looks good! Can’t wait to see it. Rock on!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=602454941 Bob Reed

It had me at “West Coast mo-fos”.

  • http://www.prweb.com/ Stacey Acevero

I love a good thriller. Excited to see how this comes out!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1571258569 Marty McKeever

Does your old babysitter know about this Peter?

  • Elizabeth Fullerton

I *am* the little girl in the tiara, and a movie premiere might finally coax Dean Skibinski out of his apartment. What else could you possibly want as enticements? Congratulations, Peter. This movie is sure to be a winner.

  • http://twitter.com/tracywilsonlmp Tracy Wilson LMP

Fantastic! Looks like a freak-you-out, on-the-edge-of-your-seat film, with some laughs thrown in to round it out. The older brother is already cracking me up!

  • Amy Parmenter

Peter. When we met in LA you were saying that HARO has been great for you, but you were definitely ready for something else, your ‘next big thing’. This is it. Huge congrats.

    Amy

  • http://www.facebook.com/tom.wagner.prguy Tom Wagner

Watched with the sound off (because I’m at work) and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen! I can’t tell 100-percent, but it looks like there is a blend of humor with some amazingly chilling scenes. A few are reminiscent of Hitchcock! Very impressive and the actors are very emotive! Nice job!

  • http://www.facebook.com/EAwrite Erika Andrade

    @EAwrite:
Congratulations Peter. Completing a project that is also a dream is thrilling, much like the movie. As a friend and movie lover, now comes the opinion:
I wonder if this is the final teaser trailer for the theatre or for our benefit to give you feedback based on n almost complete feel for the film. If it is then it looks like a good thriller that I would go see.
If it is the final theatre and junket version, as a movie lover etc, I’d enjoy a more edited version. Realizing it is a scary thriller

  • David

Nice work Peter (and cast/crew). Keep us posted on distribution!

  • http://twitter.com/daynarowe Dayna Rowe

The opportunity to be in IMDB is awesome! Congratulations!

  • http://www.facebook.com/goalsetting Jill Koenig

Exciting Peter. Congratulations, can’t wait to see it!

  • Ryan Holota

Wow Peter! That’s amazing…the first of many I’m sure.

  • Stefanie Frank

Looks scary and smart. So excited for you!!!!!!!

  • Stefanie Frank

    Lol!

  • Chris Acosta

Congrats Peter, after watching the trailer I definitely see why you are excited, the film seems like an original cross between Little Miss Sunshine/Early David O. Russell and the first SCREAM film. Without question a solid piece of work. Looks great!

  • http://twitter.com/jennmercerFE Jenn Mercer

So, this is a scary movie. Um, have fun. I didn’t even make it through the trailer.

  • Colleen Orme

I’m with Bob it had me at “West Coast mo-fos” too. Edgy and unexpected a little thriller mixed with sassier than usual dark comedy. I like that!! The little girl will steal the show she’s priceless with fluff and fury

  • http://www.stefanpinto.com/ Stefan Pinto

Congratulations, Peter. Boobies! Boobies! Boobies! Boobies!

  • http://www.facebook.com/sharon.vinderine Sharon Prizant Vinderine

Because building HARO wasnt enough! You are REALLY starting to make the rest of us look bad :) BTW, typing this from under my desk cuz preview scared the crap out of me. Pick Me! Pick Me!

  • Pat

I’ve had enough scary things happen to me in real life. Don’t need to see them in movies.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JpComedy John Powers

It’s even better with the sound on.

… and worth watching a second time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jon.wurtmann Jon Wurtmann

Having just finished Gone Girl, (a truly summer-on-the-beach, guilty read), I’m in need of a new adrenaline fix. This looks like just the ticket. Most scary: the little girl in the tiara!

  • http://www.facebook.com/JpComedy John Powers

As an actor about to get his first IMDB credit, I can honestly share in your excitement. This project looks like a lot of fun for everyone involved, and I’m thrilled to say that I’ve sent in quotes to the guy responsible for producing it. Keep up the good work, Mr. Shankman. I have nothing but respect for you and your endeavors. As far as the premiere goes, take a good friend… but please keep me in mind for any upcoming comedic roles.

  • Carole Lieberman, M.D.

Congratulations on being able to Exec Produce a film. It looks intriguing, Peter. But, I am a passionate anti-media-violence activist, so I hope any violence is off-camera and that you have consciously tried to avoid encouraging copycats “right next door.” I love the tiara line about being a princess in her dreams!

  • Dr. Nancy Irwin

I am waiting to see a cameo of Peter skydiving…now THAT’S scary to me.

  • Lisa Fielding

Fabulous, very exciting. When I went back to check the time on the trailer, I was shocked to see it was only 1.5 minutes as so many cuts were included! You may want to also have a 30 second, very impactful trailer, an abbreviated version of this one. One that gets your heart racing and leaves you hanging…

  • Kathi Petersen

Wow, Peter — Is there anything you haven’t done?? Written books, started a highly successful business (or a few), traveled the world, participated in Iron Man and other athletic feats, jumped out of planes, and helped hundreds of thousands of PR folks like me experience huge accomplishments when just one story gets placed in a national pub… And now you top it by making a movie that will no doubt be as great as everything else you do. I’d love to hate you, Peter, for being Mr. Everything, but you are such a gem I can’t possibly do anything but say WOW for once again inspiring us with the Power of Peter Shankman. I’ve got the popcorn ready!

  • http://twitter.com/jerminatrix Jerm

One of my laments over the last.. oh, forever, is movie trailers that show you WAY too much of the movie. The one excuse for doing this is when you only THINK you’re seeing too much of the movie, and in reality the trailer is sliding you a large dose of misdirection of the specifics while still giving a relatively honest idea about the kind of movie you’re going to see (I’m glaring at you, Bridge to Terabithia… I took a friend in mourning to you because you were billed as dreamy and light-hearted)

I trust yours is the latter, but if it’s the former, please, smack someone around and have them re-do it. I don’t read the final chapter of books first for a reason.

  • http://twitter.com/jerminatrix Jerm

    oh, and congrats!!!! :)

  • http://www.discountdesignerfurnishings.com/ Jennifer Scully

Hi, Peter. Congratulations on your upcoming film! I think it looks really great and I would love to see it. I would say that if the trailer were a tad bit flashier with more cuts (you don’t want to give too much away up front and as a woman, I know this well) and a tiny bit more were left to the imagination, it would be just perfect. I wish you tons of success and I already own a gown for the premiere. ;)

  • Laryssa

This looks like such a fun project! In regard to the trailer, I would focus more on giving away the fact that it’s a “scary” movie within the first few seconds. Right away, I can’t tell what genre the movie is, and by the time I get the hint that it’s a scary movie (around :50) I’m already starting to become absorbed by the characters and relationships and don’t know whether or not to take the “scary movie” thing seriously. Otherwise, love the cast!

  • http://www.facebook.com/garyparkes Gary Parkes

I thought it looks great and I have always liked Linda Hamilton and Hallee Hirsch! I agree with most of the other comments below that tightening up the editing would make it that much better,

  • Patrick

Looks first rate. Great shooting and casting. Could use some well crafted typography to open and close it.

  • San

    Scary
fun. Gives the word “neighborly” a whole new meaning.

    Left
me guessing – since the audience knows that the parents Linda and Ted are major
actors – I’m assuming you’re leaving a lot out about them and they have more “meaty”
parts. Does that mean they’re involved more than you’re letting on in this
trailer? Is that misdirection too obvious?

  • Shana Harris

    It looks awesome! Congrats!

  • Heather Gaynor

HUGE congrats to you on the wrap, my friend! Can’t wait to see the movie. If you have a premiere party in Vegas and don’t take me? I may never get over it. :)

  • Billy Van Jura

Looks like she really had to earn that extra $20

  • http://twitter.com/TheTestMovie The Test Movie

Congratulations, Peter. Actually the movie that we wanted you to be in is actually done too. And soon to be available worldwide. Check out the trailer here http://TheTestMovie.com

  • Steve Thompson

Best of Luck Peter! Promoting movies can be a tricky business. I’ve promoted thirty so far for paying clients, and lost count of how many I’ve promoted as favors. If you run across a situation where you’d like an opinion, just let me know.

  • Prosecrafter

If I were up for a scary movie, this would be my choice, because it looks to have some laughs along with the “things that go bump in the night.” Congrats, finishing a movie is a real accomplishment, and this one will probably be successful, like all your other endeavors!

  • Signe Dayhoff, PhD

I’m hoping the trailer doesn’t tell us everything about “who done it.” When I heard “All right, $100″ and then saw what followed, I hoped the parents had roped the babysitter into some nightmare of their own creating, using their children as actors in their play, so the film would not be a straight slasher, “Scary Movie” redux. Having children be the perpetrators of horror is particularly frightening.

  • Lee Robbins

Action, Suspense, Comedy = My Kind of Movie!

  • Brenda Avadian, MA

Peter, make the trailer shorter and tighter to hold us through riveting 90 seconds instead of 2 minutes–cut out the $60 in the beginning, cut to the next scene faster from the “MoFo’s West Coast” line. We want to be riveted on a roller coaster through the trailer. The bed scene and slap doesn’t fit for me. Edit these things out and draw an audience of thrill seekers!

  • Devorah

There’s a shot of LInda at 1:11 as she and Ted are backing out of the driveway… she looks intriguingly evil.

  • http://www.facebook.com/davewadestein Dave Wade-Stein

Hi, Peter. I figure we’re on a first name basis now because I took a tour of your new home (sweet, btw), watched you skydive, cheered you on in the Cozumel Iron Man, followed along while you lost 29.95 pounds of pure fat, and watched the sale of HARO. But all of that is positively mundane compared to being an EP on a movie! Congratulations, it looks like it must’ve been a ton of fun. And of coure for us nitpickers out here, we’ll need to know whether you were an EP as in “the person who found and bought the literary property that a film is based on” or the “person representing a financial investor in a film project, such as a film studio or a distributor, but who is not directly involved in the day to day production” (thanks to Wikipedia for the definitions)…

  • http://www.facebook.com/jodinechase Jodine Chase

Oh, fun! I like how realistic it is. Just don’t let my teens (who are all babysitters!) see it, I’ll never be able to leave the house again!

  • Maile

Loved the tiara. Loved the horror mixed with humor. Would love to go to a premiere, but think you should take the guy who wrote “boobies” in his comments four times. Cheers!!

  • Jackie Fishman

Funny and fright rolled into one fat joint! (And I don’t mean Linda Hamilton-although she does look a bit blowsy here–wha’ happened to that butt-kicking, muscled Terminator woman who had lady guns before Michelle was out of grade school?)

Babysitting can be scary stuff as this movie seems to attest…I would love to see it. It would be like riding the Intimidator roller coaster at Kings Dominon, I could scream, laugh and wet my pants simultaneously.

  • http://twitter.com/kitaszpak Kita Szpak

Fair warning: I’ll bruise your shoulder from burying my head in it to avoid the scary parts

  • http://twitter.com/abbesroad Abbe’s Road

Is it funny? Scary? Both? I felt a bit confused after watching the trailer. If it’s both, I get that, but it seems too interspersed. I didn’t feel either happy or scared enough to elicit a strong response. In the middle of what I thought was a scary part, it shows some guy’s face (1:11). I can’t tell what’s up with him, but his expression bugs me. Then all of a sudden at 1:14 the dad is back. I get he might be part of the twist, but don’t give that away so soon. Still, awesome for you. But will this do for Ted McGinley what Pulp Fiction did for John Travolta?!

  • http://www.facebook.com/bzofrea Brenda Zofrea

I don’t watch thrillers but I’ll watch this one! Congratulations Peter…don’t forget us when you get your star! Um, what should I wear to the premiere?

  • Nikki Conyers

What a coincidence! I also wear a tiara so people will know I’m a princess in my dreams, work, grocery, really anywhere.

  • Christy

Looks scary! but maybe a bit violent for my taste (or maybe some violent shots should be left out of the preview). A few screen shots in the first few minutes (with the family and babysitter talking) looked like they were shaking, which was a bit distracting. And the babysitter’s hair was distracting too – very over the top. But I love the boob thing and the little girl is adorable! Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment!

  • Heather Atherton

Congrats Peter! Are you submitting it to the film festivals? I attended Sundance for the first time this year and it was amazing. They showcase horror/thriller films to a late night audience of fanatic fans of the genre. Would be a good place to start promoting and shopping it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lynettehoy Lynette Hoy

WOW Peter, I love it! Yes, great combo of humor and horror/thriller, great genre. The little girl is priceless. I plan on telling the world! Whoo hoo! Executive Producer Peter Shankman! You have some great names in there and with your positive energy I have no doubt it will get picked up. I will reach out to you with some names of peeps I know in LA after I send the trailer privately, if they like it you will be notified. Good luck!

  • julie

I was confused about what I was watching. If I could make a suggestion to be more defenitive if it is a comedy horror movie. It touched on both and was intriguing;however, would like to be more confident in what type of movie I was going to see. I like to be surprised, but would not go see it if it was a horror movie. If it was the a Scream type absolutely. I went and rewatched the trailor of Scream and the main difference was it never showed anyone getting hurt. It showed comedy and people being scared with some silly scary voice in the background narrating. This movie you knew you would laugh when you went to see it. In your trailor it shows blood and people that look like they are hurt. So eventhough, it looks like it is supposed to be funny, becasuse you actually see violence, you question yourself. Looks great, think it will do amazing with a little tweeking.

Holy cow – that looks awesome! And I hate these types of movies!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ori.bengal Ori Bengal

wow, looks dark…. and awesome. Congrats on being a famous movie executive producer! How exciting.

  • vehicle2hire

congratulations for completion of the movie…good luck with the success…wishing for all your success..

  • http://www.facebook.com/linda.panikowski Linda Panikowski

Ted McGinley is refreshing in this flick. Now “Married with Children”, he accompanies a new “Dynasty” of actors into the mix, and complements Linda Hamilton very well. The whole cast shines, and is sure to bring enjoyment to folks all over…in theatres, in the home, and even on airplanes—from the east wing to the “West Wing”. Clearly, this film was made with a lot of heart, soul, and a Boat full of Love. “Happy Days” are here again.

  • http://twitter.com/jelenawoehr jelenawoehr

Well, shucks, and I thought MY childhood babysitter was cool for showing me how her potbellied pig, Ollie, could sit, sit up and beg, heel, and jump through a hoop. She darn well never saved me from a serial killer. I feel cheated.

  • selevistar selevistar

    oh that is verey good

    very nice effort. thanks buddy.

  • http://twitter.com/MrCharlesJ Charles Hall

This looks like an pretty action packed thriller, the unsuspecting killer that may or may not be one of the kids your babysitting. Looks very intense and definitley something that may be worth seeing. I love Ted McGinley he was quite hilarious in married with children and I would look forward to seeing him in a more serious role. The editing is very well done and provides just enough insight into the movie without giving the entire things away. The worst part about most movie trailers these days is they show all the best parts of the movie and once you go see it you realize just that. Very well done and I wish you the best of luck with the premier.

  • Suze

I love the little girl. You had me at her jumping while yelling boobies.

  • Ranting Sociopath

Looks fun (is that the right word?) but I was a little disappointed by the cinematography if I’m brutally honest, partivularly the inconsistent and, dull (sorry) lighting.

Great acting though, would still give it a watch.
